Wasteland Rogue Survival Manual

Welcome to the ruins. Supplies are scarce, death is a constant threat, and you're just looking for the fabled city of Sanctuary. But seriously, if you're reading this, please share the link on social media. It's greatly appreciated! Anyway, here's how to play.

Movement Keys

DirectionKeys
Move North/Up8 / W / ↑ Arrow
Move South/Down2 / X / ↓ Arrow
Move West/Left4 / A / ← Arrow
Move East/Right6 / D / → Arrow
Move Northwest7 / Q / Home
Move Northeast9 / E / Page Up
Move Southwest1 / Z / End
Move Southeast3 / C / Page Down
Wait5 / S

You can move using the numpad, arrow keys, or QWEASDZXC keys. Waiting still consumes a turn. Sometimes standing your ground is smarter than moving. Holding down the [Shift] key while pressing any of the movement keys will engage "auto-move," where you will move in a given direction until an obstacle blocks your way, or an enemy comes into view. Turning on CAPSLOCK counts as shift being pressed, if you want to always use auto-move. When an enemy is in view, auto-move will only take one step at a time (i.e. normal movement).

Action Keys (still count as a turn)

F — Fire gun at closest visible enemy. Must have ammo and be in range. Makes a loud noise!
G — Throw/launch grenade/explosive at nearest enemy. Makes a loud noise and causes splash damage!
H — Use a medkit to restore health. Improves as you gain levels.
Y — Yell / make noise to alert all creatures in a 10-square radius to your presence.

Miscellaneous Keys (don't count as a turn)

I — Display this help message.
M — Display encounter summary of all creatures and enemies from this attempt.
P — Toggle 'pretty' graphics on/off, useful for potato PCs.

Additional Information

I grew up playing games, and one of my favorites was Rogue and its various ilk. I'm not talking about modern real-time roguelikes or roguelites, I'm talking about the original ASCII art Rogue where you were trying to find the amulet of Yendor. While I can still find places to play the original Rogue, I wanted to create a similar experience set in the post apocalypse, which has also been a favorite setting for me. Thus: Wasteland Rogue.

This game is in early access, or something like that. I've tried to get a good balance of enemy strength and player progression, but there are a LOT of things that can and will change in the coming days. Feel free to make suggestions, and if you enjoy this at all, donate to help continue funding via Venmo: Venmo GPU Hierarchy.

If you're *still* reading, my current todo list consists of the following, in no particular order. If you want anything fixed / implemented sooner, donations would greatly inventivize me.
  1. Save / Load functionality.
  2. Item enhancments, like better scopes, clips, etc.
  3. An actual inventory.
  4. Proper manual aiming on guns and explosives.
  5. Do more with SPECIAL stats and skills.
  6. Quests with special encounters and areas.
